Health care is a basic human right. All Kentuckians, no matter how much they earn, deserve access to affordable health care.
We need to move towards a more accessible healthcare system, like Medicare-for-All. Too many people in America are without adequate healthcare coverage, resulting in higher premiums for those who are insured. I am proposing a Medicare Opt-In/Opt-Out to give people an opportunity to try Medicare as their healthcare coverage at whatever cost they are currently paying. After one year, buyers can “Opt-Out” and restart their previous insurance at the rate which they were paying prior to their “Opt-In”.
To lower long-term costs and improve care, we must stop treating healthcare like a private industry, and start treating it like a public good and a basic right for every American.
